Lamb, Pork and Beef
Our cattle spend 7 to 8 months of the year, grazing in open fields, enjoying a diet of lush grass. They come into straw barns for winter housing in late October, through to calving in April. Our herd is made up of Limousin, Belgian Blue and Simmental cattle, which are known for producing excellent cuts of meat.
Our ewes live outside in the fields all year round, only coming indoors, overnight, during lambing, for their comfort. Our Texal ewes are ready to lamb from the end of March for about six weeks.
Our pigs are sourced locally as weaners. They live in our traditional, purpose built pig sties, which date back to the 1850s. They enjoy a diet rich in Ireley apples and pears, which we pick in Autumn and store throughout the winter.
Nearly all of the winter diet of our livestock is grown and prepared on the farm. It consists of our own grass silage, hay and straw and a mixture of ground up wheat and barley, from our own fields and rolled on the farm.
All of our animals are locally slaughtered and the meat is hung to allow flavours to develop. We sell our lamb and pork in quarter or half boxes. Our beef will be available from January and a variety of cuts and roasting joints will be sold by the box.
